Welcome and Greetings from Derek Lee, M.P.

This website owned and maintained by the Scarborough Rouge River Federal Liberal Association opens a new era for the association as the local organization for the Liberal Party of Canada. Just as internet websites around the world are opening up new ways of connecting people, our association aims to communicate and create new ways of generating and fostering political involvement and participation by Canadians here and abroad and by others who can now connect with us.

Within our Liberal Party, I as a Member of Parliament, rely on our constituency association for several essentials for continuing political success, including:

-Policy development
-Election organization
-Candidate representation and selection, and
-Political fundraising.

In the absence of the grass-roots contribution of people, ideas and energy to those tasks, a political party such as ours would sooner or later fail to achieve our goals. Thanks to the leadership and efforts of the many Liberals who have preceded us over the last century, we in the Party are the current contributors and managers of one of the most successful political parties in the growing democratic world.

Recognizing generally the importance in our democracy of citizen participation in the political process at all levels, we encourage Canadians to do more than just voting in elections. Our political parties are fundamental components of our Parliamentary democracy and need to stay healthy with fresh ideas and dynamic participation aimed at impacting the evolving national agenda. Our geographically large nation is composed of many distinct regions, and even more numbers of peoples of different cultures, heritage and language. Maintaining unity and common purpose in a federation such as ours has always posed challenges and Canadians have clearly succeeded in meeting them. Our Liberal Party has likewise been successful in meeting these challenges and our continuing efforts at inclusion of all Canadians, new and old, has been one of the more obvious reasons for our success. But we cannot cease ever in our efforts to include, involve and deliver our local political aspirations to the national stage.
